| (Submitted by Brian Wilson - Trip taken July 2008) Greece was a 1 week part of a 3 week summer holiday July , August 08. A Google search from home found Egnatia Aviation near Kavala northern Greece. EMails were promptly answered, and its no problem to do a local flight with an instructor. Greece has a population of about 11.2 million, but not to many flying schools, the costs are very high. Egnatia has a fleet of 7 leased Diamond aircraft, and 3 Aero AT 3. The Diamonds have a Thielert Centurion 135HP liquid cooled 4 stroke turbo charged diesel engine, which can run on diesel or jet fuel. They have a 3 blade MT composite automatic C/S prop, driven with a gearbox reduction assembly, and a FADEC single lever engine control. FADEC means ' Full Authority Digital Engine Control' which electronically manages fuel flow and RPM providing optimum engine efficiency for a given flight condition. This engine is very quiet, smooth and has very little vibration. Cessna was working with Thielert to put this engine in a 172, but now Thielert is in bankruptcy and Cessna has dropped that project. |
